The Donmar Warehouse used to be part of a brewery – but now, instead of beer, it creates some of the best intimate theatre in the world.

Led by Artistic Director Josie Rourke and Executive Producer Kate Pakenham, the Donmar is a strikingly intimate 251-seat, subsidised theatre in Covent Garden, right at the heart of London’s West End. Its small space offers actors and audiences a theatrical experience unlike any other.

It is internationally renowned as one of the world’s principal producing theatres, having won over 100 major awards during its 24-year history, and its innovative productions can often be found selling out venues in the West End and on Broadway.

The Donmar Warehouse has had a series of high profile Artistic Directors, including the likes of Sam Mendes (famous for his work on recent Bond films) and Michael Grandage, both of whom have gone on to huge success.  Opened in 1977, the small space plays host to new writing, Shakespeare and modern classics.

The Donmar Warehouse’s exceptional education work also aims empower young people and cultivate a new generation of artists, audiences and active citizens, whilst its creative development programme invites the best established and emerging artists to push themselves and the boundaries of theatre-making.
