Judi Dench has beaten her own record as the winner of the most individual performance Olivier Awards, with a win at this year’s ceremony taking her tally to eight.
One of the UK’s best loved actors, Dench was tonight awarded the Best Actress in a Supporting Role prize for her role as Paulina in Kenneth Branagh and Rob Ashford’s stunning production of The Winter’s Tale.
Writing about her appearance when the show opened last year, Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall commented “Dench predictably steals the show with a twinkling, unshakeable and headstrong performance.”
The star of stage and screen last won an Olivier Award in 2004 when she was presented with a prestigious Special Award to mark her near unparalleled achievements in theatre.
Dench triumphed in a category also featuring acclaimed actors Catherine Steadman, Melody Grove and Michele Dotrice.
