Kinky Boots wins Best Musical Olivier

Broadway export Kinky Boots has been crowned MasterCard Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard.

Harvey Fierstein’s big-hearted, high-heeled musical featuring music by pop star Cyndi Lauper opened to rave reviews when it made its London premiere last autumn.

Based on the 2005 comedy film, Matt Henry and Killian Donnelly star as two very different men who find their lives entangled when shoe factory owner Charlie desperately needs help to live up to his father’s legacy and save the family business. Inspiration comes in the unlikely form of drag queen Lola, an entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos.

The musical has won fans for its colourful costumes, sensational choreography by Jerry Mitchell and Lauper’s witty and heart-warming songs.

Writing about the show when it opened last September, Official London Theatre described the production as a “heelicious, toeriffic new musical with plenty of sole”.

Kinky Boots is currently booking at the Adelphi Theatre to 24 September. You can book tickets through us here.
