Olivier Awards launches 2017 panellist search

The Olivier Awards 2017 with MasterCard has launched a search to find members of the public to help judge who should be crowned the winners at the 2017 ceremony.

Avid theatre fans have until 18 January 2016 at 17:00 to submit their applications for the 2017 judging period, which begins on 17 February 2016 and runs for approximately 12 months.

As well as helping to decide those all-important Olivier Award recipients, the public panellists will also be invited, along with a guest, to the illustrious 2017 ceremony where they’ll have the chance to watch the incredible evening of prize-giving and entertainment, attend the after-show party and mingle with the stars.

As in previous years, public panellists are needed in four categories – Theatre, Opera, Dance and Affiliate, which covers smaller or off-West End venues – with the role requiring each individual to see every eligible production in the category.

It’s the perfect opportunity for fans of theatre, opera or dance wanting to see a huge range of shows for free, with the number of eligible productions often reaching around 100 plays and musicals, and 30 operas. While the position is unpaid, panellists often receive two free tickets to each of the eligible shows along with a free programme.

To be considered for the judging panel, applicants should be over the age of 18 and live within easy reach of the capital. The application also requires them to write a 150 word review of a production they’ve seen over the past year and submit a list of productions they’ve seen during the same period.

Those who are shortlisted will be asked to attend a short interview at the Society of London Theatre’s offices in Covent Garden on 4, 10, 11 February 2016. Only applicants who have been selected for interview will be contacted.

Applications can be submitted online, by post or by email. For more information and how to apply, visit the Olivier Awards website.
