Olivier Awards launches pop-up space

Celebrations for the Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard start early this year, as London theatre’s most prestigious accolades launch a pop-up space in Covent Garden that will be open from Tuesday 7 April to the day of the event, Sunday 12 April.

The space, located near the Covent Garden entrance to the Royal Opera House, will be a hub for all things Olivier-related in the run-up to this year’s glamorous event and will feature workshops, exhibitions and its own red carpet.

Jacqueline Wilson, who wrote the novel on which Best Entertainment And Family nominee Hetty Feather is based, will give a free storytelling workshop in the temporary establishment. The team from another nominee, The Play That Goes Wrong, will pop in to the pop-up for an improv workshop, while Matt Humphrey, who took Official London Theatre’s stunning reportage images of the Nominees Lunch, will give a photography workshop.

In addition to the free ticketed events, the pop-up space will display the costumes of nominated designers Robert Jones (City Of Angels), Alejo Vietti (Beautiful – The Carole King Musical) and Paul Tazewell (Memphis The Musical) alongside costumes from This Morning Audience Award nominees Billy Elliot The Musical, Jersey Boys, Matilda The Musical and Wicked.

Fans eager for an Olivier Awards souvenir can snap themselves on a red carpet alongside a giant Olivier statuette from Es Devlin’s set, or purchase limited edition Oliviers merchandise. Theatre fans can also buy tickets and Theatre Tokens from the pop-up space.

The new pop-up space is the latest way for theatre lovers to celebrate the Olivier Awards, London theatre’s highest honour. On the day of the awards, fans can head to Covent Garden Piazza to join a free celebration complete with live performances and streaming of the ceremony, follow events live on social media and get involved using #oliviers and watch a highlights package which will be broadcast on ITV at 22:15, shortly after the end of the ceremony.
